Hours: 8 | Type: Distance

Asbestos, carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, lead, and radon are known as environmental hazards, and are recognized to be outside the scope of a standard home inspection. However, these dangerous and sometimes life threatening hazardous materials exist in many homes and many homebuyers and homeowners are rightly concerned. For this reason, environmental hazard inspections are often included as an additional optional service when someone requests a home inspection.

This course is an introduction to environmental hazards as they relate to the housing and construction industry, with regard to mitigating human exposure to the damaging effects they can have. Each lesson identifies a specific environmental hazard, teaches the student how to recognize it, describes how people become exposed to it, how to test for it, and ways to solve or lessen the problem. Being aware of the environmental risks that exist and how to protect yourself and others from them is very important, and after completion of this course you will know how to examine a home for these hidden dangers. Additionally, this course contains information as to whether a license or certification is required to perform professional testing or abatement services for customers.

Our Environmental Hazards course is also accepted for continuing education credits by most home inspector associations. The course is conveniently available online or on CD-ROM. Each lesson contains instantly-graded quizzes and interactive computerized flash cards so you can test your knowledge retention on the spot. Our advanced, secure system records your quiz and exam answers in real-time so you can effortlessly track your own progress or resume where you left off. After finishing the course and passing the final exam you will be more informed and better able to make good decisions about the various environmental hazards that exist in residential homes.
